Isla Coral (Coral Island) and its smaller neighboring island, Isla Cangrejo (Crab Island), are both considered ecological reserves. The islands are located about 1.8 miles (3 kilometers) off the beach in Rincón de Guayabitos and undeniably provide an anchor for the entire Bahia de Jaltemba (Bay of Jaltemba).
The natural habitat includes a wide variety of flora and fauna, including blue-footed boobies, pelicans, seagulls and other birds. The clear turquoise waters that surround the island provide an ideal setting for coral, marine plants, colorful fish, starfish, sea turtles, stingrays and other aquatic life.
Visitors can rent a kayak, take a panga (small fishing boat) or buy a ticket to ride the party boat to get to Coral Island. There are no facilities or electricity on the island, so you may want to pack a lunch or drinks to enjoy while you’re there.
