      Spectacular views and lovely accomodations.
We spent 4 weeks at the Terraza Suite and loved every minute. The terrace is perfect for just relaxing or enjoying the view. Lin and Jim were gracious hosts and we enjoyed spending time with them as well as the other guests. Having the resident dogs hang out with us was an added bonus. We look forward to staying at Casa Contenta again!

Casa Contenta is an oasis at a quiet end of a perfect beach. We could hear the waves from our charming Casita Suite, a spacious, cozy and breezy retreat after a day on a lounge chair on the sand. You can’t beat early morning walks to the fresh fish vendors on the beach, bobbing in the waves, kayaking and reading, reading reading. We were reluctant to leave and to say good bye to Lin and Jim our anfitriones extraordinario. Besides being good company, Lin and Jim went beyond our expectations to ensure our comfort and full enjoyment of Casa Contenta and the surrounding area.

      A marvelous, relaxing vacation.
My wife and I stayed at the Casa Contenta in the Terraza suite from Jan 25 until Feb 15, 2014. We had booked after viewing their website and reading various travelers comments. This is one of those cases where the place was even nicer than described. From the moment of our arrival we were very well treated. The Terraza suite is unbelievable, with a giant private deck protected by a mermaid on one side and a seahorse on the other. We spent many an hour suntanning and reading on the deck. The kitchen/ dining area has a bank of sliding doors facing the ocean. The Master bedroom has a 10 foot sliding door and a large window also facing the ocean. The washroom is large with an open shower on tiled floors. The unit had its own library with approx 200 books. There was a 1/2 lb of coffee provided on arrival [ a very nice touch] along with a variety of spices and sauces. The kitchen is fully equipped, with everything that you need to prepare and eat a meal. The owners Jim and Lin are excellent hosts. They have a vast knowledge of the area, and are happy to invite you along on various dining and entertainment adventures. We went out with Jim, Lin and some of the other guests to dine and see flamenco guitarists in Lo de Marco and on another night a rooftop Arabian feast with a belly dancer in La Penita. One night Jim and Lin hosted a barbeque for the guests. Besides an excellent Margarita, Jim also makes an absolutely delicious arrachera. The property is right on the beach, just near the southern end of the bay. We spent many days floating in the calm waters right in front of the Casa Contenta. Los Ayala is a quiet little town with some cobblestone but mostly dirt roads. One of my favorite things was borrowing one of the Casa’s bikes with a basket, and cycling off to buy supplies from the local stores. They are fairly well stocked, and if you can’t find it there you should be able to find it in Guayabitos or La Penita. It is hard to speak of the Casa Contenta without mentioning the obvious labour of love that went into the decorations and furnishings. An eclectic mixture of artwork, fixtures, tilework and furniture gives each unit a distinctive identity During our stay we had a look at the other units, two casitas and a two bedroom unit. We would be happy staying in any one of them It is hard to do verbal justice to the incredible good time that we had there. We met and socialized with some really nice people. We loved the beach and loved the Casa Contenta. We would return in a heartbeat,in fact we have already booked for the same time next year.

      A beautiful little place!
Yes, Casa Contenta is indeed a beautiful place – very Mexican – tilework and art! Beautiful quiet sandy beach with crystal clear water. Jim and Lin are wonderful hosts and will do anything they can to make your stay comfortable. They are always planning dinner and entertainment out and little sightseeing trips. Everything works or it is fixed immediately (a maintenance couple live on site). They have thought of all the little things from bottled water in the bathroom, nice beach towels, lots of electrical outlets, good internet connections, soft bed, cool without air conditioning due to the high ceilings. I love to cook and the kitchen was very well stocked. Lots of dishes and pots and pans and even an oven. I love to entertain and was able to invite guests for dinner on our private patio. We had a ground level suite. Los Ayala has the necessities and Guayabitos is only a 90 pesos bus ride away or a $30 pesos taxi ride. The rates are good and if you stay 30 days or longer they are even better, but you have to book early.

      A treasure by the sea.
Stunning artwork everywhere, flower-filled gardens and rich Mexican colors. Everything about our stay at Casa Contenta was perfect. The suites are immaculate. Each one is uniquely and beautifully decorated, has a fully equipped kitchen and private outdoor space. There is a lovely, communal grassy space at the edge of the charming beach for reading in a lounge chair or swaying in the hammock. Jim kindly oriented us on our second day by driving us around Los Ayala, Guyabitos and La Pineta. We became friends with the other guests, had lovely cocktail parties and explored other villages and sights together. We also had plenty of quiet time. Lin invited us to attend yoga classes with her. She and Jim warmly included us on trips to the markets, visits to Sayulita and San Pancho and lunches and dinners in surrounding restaurants. One evening I was tired and decided to stay in, and Lin thoughtfully brought me a container of tortilla soup. Clearly Lin and Jim are respected and appreciated throughout the region for their commitment to the health and rescue of hurt and stray animals. Casa Contenta is a treasure in every way: visually stunning, clean and safe with a warm and friendly spirit.

      Can’t wait to go back!
My husband and I recently visited for four relaxing days and now can’t wait to go back again for a longer stay! Our room was clean, comfortable, roomy, and full of art and color. The sound of the ocean lulled us to sleep at night and beckoned us for cooling swims during the day. No shortage of good food within easy walking distance. Our hosts Lin and Jim were wonderful, and full of information about the area. We’re so grateful to our friends who have also stayed here and told us we had to visit too!

      Just Relax.
Absolutely top notch hideaway. The rooms are finished Mexican style but with all the conveniences you need for a get-a-way or a longer sojourn. There is no TV but there is WiFi. The appliances are modern. The rooms are lovely and a lot of thought has gone into decorating them. Of course it is right on the best swimming beach in Mexico. Los Ayala is a small town, about 400 permanent inhabitants I have heard. However on weekends and Mexican holidays there are many Mexicans that come to the breach. It is a joy to see the families and kiddies enjoying their beach. But it is Lin and Jim that make Casa Contenta truly shine. They are wonderful hosts with a great pride in their home. You will love this place. PS Must love dogs.

This being our last day at Casa Contenta I feel very sad to say goodbye. We decided at the last minute to see if Lin and Jim had room for us for a quick getaway from Edmonton. She did and when we arrived everything was perfect. The room was great. Jim and Lin are fabulous hosts and of course the wonderful pets. This is definitely the place to go to have some well deserved Rest and relaxation. For dining out the restaurants in all three towns were excellent we never had one bad dinner. We absolutely loved the beach not a rock just glorious sand. We will be back again in a couple of months. PS TELL YOUR FRIENDS YOU WON’T BE DISAPPOINTED.

Contenta Indeed. A feast for the senses in a well placed hideaway. Great hosts, well equipped, peaceful and pleasant. I only hate to recommend it more fully because I want to have a place to return to… Lin and Jim, the host owners are a true asset to this remarkable community.

      Comfort and Style.
We just concluded our second stay at Casa Contenta and enjoyed it as much as our first visit a year ago. Los Ayala is a small town at the Southern end of Jaltemba Bay, about 1.5 hours drive North of Puerto Vallarta (PV). While the towns North of PV up through Sayulita appear to mostly cater to North American visitors, the towns North from there seem to be destinations more for Mexicans, with Rincon de Guayabitos as the center. The drive from Sayulita onwards feels like going back in time figuratively and literally – somewhere near Lo de Marcos, the time zone changes from Central to Mountain. We rented a car in PV for both our visits and welcomed the convenience of having our own transport. Los Ayala is smaller and quieter than Guayabitos, although on weekends and holidays the beach will get busy with mostly locals. Casa Contenta is on the quiet Southern end of the beach and stands out with its unique architecture and colorful design. Owners Lin and Jim have invested a lot of energy and creativity into building a truly unique and romantic environment, combining colonial designs and furniture with lots of artful details. We stayed in the upstairs Vista suite, which has two bed and bathrooms, a large living area and kitchen with a covered outdoor dining area, a big patio on the side, as well as a huge rooftop patio, which offers great views of the surroundings and the ocean. Lin and Jim made us feel very welcome and helped with everything from arranging massages, suggesting places for shopping and sightseeing, as well as local restaurants and options for live music. Staying in Los Ayala may require a few adjustments and then it will be a great experience: there are few paved roads (work in progress), few restaurants (the ones on the beach close at dusk), and few places to get necessities. On the other hand one can buy freshly caught fish (lobster on weekends) on the beach in the morning along with fresh bread and vegetables for delicious meals at home, if one is so inclined. Otherwise, Guayabitos and La Penita offer quantity and variety for shopping and dining, and even Sayulita is close enough for a dinner outing. We have on both our visits thoroughly enjoyed Lin’s and Jim’s hospitality, the comfort of Casa Contenta, a glimpse of Mexico away from the main destinations, and we have always felt safe, whether in town, on the beach, or in the car. Lastly, Casa Contenta is very pet-friendly; we brought our dog on both visits, and it felt at home just as we did.

      In love with Casa contenta.
I have stayed at Casa contenta for two years, each time in nov or December. The rooms are excellent, very clean and well decorated with an emphasis on light for reading..The rooms are within a short distance from the bay so you can hear the waves at night hitting the beach..The water os perfect for swimming..Jim and Lin, the owners extend wonderful hospitality. Frequently they suggest that the guests go out to dinner with them ; they choose the finest restaurants and also find a variety of music..my favorite place to stay in mexico and I have been in the country 16 times.

      Very Best Exotic Casa Contenta.
We just returned from a wonderful three week stay at Casa Contenta. This place is unlike most accomodations in that each of the four suites is very unique, the owners Lin and Jim live on sight and interact daily with their guests and the guests themselves become friends very quickly. Lin makes sure that guests know where to go to buy the best fruit and vegetables, meat and grocery items and actually drove us there initially, pointing out places of interest along the way. She will arrange transportation for large and small groups to go out for dinner, markets or any day trip you may want to try. She will set up cooking lessons, massages, Spanish lessons, yoga if those are of interest to you. There are shelves of books to borrow and read. No need to bring your own as there is something for everyone. If you just want to do your own thing that is ok too. We found ourselves enjoying the company of our fellow guests and the great recommendations for dinner out. Lin made sure we were all comfortable and felt welcome. The location is unbeatable. Step off the front lawn and you are on a wide, beautiful sandy beach. Keep going and you are swimming in clear, clean water with gentle swells to play in. There are multiple beach toys including high quality kayaks. Walk down the beach and buy a freshly made donut or delicious barbecued fish on a stick and then back to Casa Contenta to recline on one of many padded beach chairs. Paradise. It is no wonder that so many guests leave Casa Contenta with a reservation booked for the following year!

Above and beyond all my expectations!
After walking the beach in Los Ayala for several years, past Casa Contenta, I finally decided to book a stay and it was so much more than I ever expected! Thank you Lin, for your kindness and all your wonderful planning that took me, my friends and other guests to “dinners on the beach”, out to new restaurants to enjoy great meals and fantastic music, as well as putting together a trip to a very special Sunday market in La Cruz! I mostly enjoyed being able to walk out a few feet to the beach, and buy my breakfast or shop! I am a return guest for sure!!! Gracias!

      Casa Contenta paradise!
I recently spent a few days at Casa Contenta, and I can’t say enough wonderful things about it! The setting itself is perfect, situated in the village of Los Ayala and nestled right on a beautiful beach that is perfect for swimming or just relaxing on the beach. Casa Contenta itself is decorated like nothing I’ve ever seen…..with the bright colors and whimsical art it’s like a wonderland! Linda and Jim live right on the property and interact with guests daily, making sure everyone is happy and cared for. Both are very knowledgable about the region and Mexican culture, and are happy to assist and make recommendations on things to do in the area. Highly recommended for the perfect getaway, and pet friendly as well!

We have once again returned to our home away from home. Jim and Lin were as always fabulous hosts. The rooms were very clean, all the amenities of home with the added bonus of being a few feet off the beautiful sandy beach. We swam everyday except 3 of our short 10 day stay. The food at the local restaurants was mouth watering especially if you are a seafood lover. I cannot wait until our time again in the sun next year.

Welcoming, luxurious, hospitality and the sound of the surf is in your ears! Casa Contenta is a funky place to stay ( lots of color and art!) that couldn’t give you a closer or better Mexican Beach and village experience. Lin and Jim are exceptional hosts and their place is beautiful, comfortable and spotless. I would go back in a flash!

My husband and I loved Casa Contenta. It was a beautiful place right on the beach. As we slept we could hear the waves of the ocean. It was so relaxing and being right on the beach was wonderful. Jim and Lin were excellent hosts. They showed us what restaurants were good to eat in and often we would go as a group to eat. I think the word we used the most was “fun”. We had so much fun at Casa Contenta meeting other guests, going out for lunch just down the beach at Juan’s restaurant, having all the vendors coming to us on the beach selling their stuff, buying custard donuts from the man carrying the tray on his head, walking the beach and enjoying people with big smiles on their faces, sitting back and enjoying the 60’s band on the beach while the rain poured down from hurricane Sandra, the mariachi band at the local restaurant. We have so many memories of the sun and surf. The decor of Casa Contenta was amazing and we loved looking at all the decor and tiles and how the suites were put together. The best part of our trip was going to the dog shelter. We brought back one dog for a person who rescued a dog off the beach, paid for all her vet bills and brought her back to health. The dog wasn’t ready to come to Victoria when the owner left so we brought her back with us. It was a joyful reunion in the airport. We also fostered a little terrier rescue when we were at Casa Contenta and of course we turned out to be failed foster parents and we kept her and she is the best little puppy and we love her. We are so glad we went to Casa Contenta and have already planned our next visit.

Wow !!! We just returned from a 3 week stay at Casa Contenta and cant say enough good things about our time there. We stayed in the Casita Suite……beautifully decorated and comfortable….there is a little patio just outside our door were we enjoyed our morning coffee and Baileys. Lin and Jim are the most amazing hosts, while we were there they put on a BBQ for all the guests to enjoy….Arrachera, Mexican Rice, Beans, Grilled Onions and Papaya & Avocado Salad…..was absolutely delicious…..Jim also makes the best killer Margaritas. Most mornings we would walk the beautiful beach and then go for a swim in the ocean, which was very calm with gentle rolling waves. The best part for us is that Casa Contenta is very dog friendly and we can bring our dog with us and not have to worry as it is completely fenced. We will be returning for our 5th time in Feb. 2017. Thanks again for the best time Lin and Jim

We were part of a Veterinary Team hosted by Mex-Can Vet Project of which Lin and Jim are key organizers. They host part of the team for accommodations and what a great place to stay, what an incentive to return! The town is quiet and quaint, our unit, the Terraza Suite, was clean, very spacious with a handy kitchenette. Our upper level patio overlooked the ocean front area of the property, right on the beach. Everything was just really comfortable. Our days were very busy and coming back to a refreshing swim right off the beachfront property was great. Lin & Jim were great hosts, endless patience, giving up their entire week to cater to this Gringo group. Their willingness to help us out with everything from where to buy food to restaurant recommendations, to questions about the area, they answered them all with the enthusiasm of having been asked the first time. The entire area feels really safe, relaxed and welcoming by the locals. People were kind to us everywhere, both the Gringos and the Mexicans. Very much enjoyed our stay.

If you stay at Casa Contenta, you’ll not only be right on the beach, you’ll be at the most photographed place on the beach! The baroque Mexican décor attracts lots of curious sightseers. There are only four suites here, two studios that are quite economical on ground level, and two larger more expensive second-storey suites. The upper suites have terraces with a terrific view of the ocean. We’ve stayed in both the lower ones and prefer the Casita over the Playa suite. The Casita has more comfortable seating.

Since there are no TVs here, Jim & Lin have a bit of a movie library, so it may be a good idea to bring a laptop with a DVD drive with you… just in case of bad weather. There is Wi-Fi at Casa Contenta, but it can be temperamental anywhere in the region. You can request an upright fan to help with cooling in the evening. A variety of water toys are available for use, and they even have a bicycle or two if you’d like to explore the local area.

Casa Contenta is a great place for those who want to try something different than all-inclusive, but where there is someone very familiar with the local scene. The owners, Jim & Lin, are friendly and helpful hosts who try to ensure their guests enjoy their stay. They won’t hesitate to invite you along for an evening meal at places you might not easily discover on your own.

Note that Los Ayala is pretty small, has no bank but several small grocery/beach stuff stores and only has three ATM machines. Ask Jim which one to avoid. Bring extra cash since these machines get emptied out from time to time, sometimes taking 3 or 4 days to get topped up. Jim was kind enough to drive me to the bank in La Penita when I ran short of cash during one of those episodes. Aside from long weekends when the beach is packed with folks from Guadalajara, the town is populated by friendly people and is perfectly safe. We’ve been taking long evening walks around the area in late evening and rarely see anything that would be a cause for concern. There’s no doubt you’ll enjoy the area.

My husband and I have visited Casa Contenta a number of times over that last few years and we love it. Lin and Jim are wonderful hosts, it’s always a pleasure seeing them and spending time in their beautiful Casa located right on the lovely Los Ayala beach in Jaltemba Bay. There are many great restaurants in the towns surrounding the Bay, some offer wonderful music and entertainment. Always great fun to spend Thursday mornings at the market in La Penita; in addition to baked goods, fruit, vegetables and meat the square offers Artisan goods made by local Artists as well as those from other States in Mexico.

Stayed at Casa Contenta twice – 3 weeks in 2013 and 3 weeks November 2016. Lin and Jim are incredible hosts and live right on the property. They always made sure we were comfortable and knew how to get around, the best places to eat, shop, and any activities that may be of interest. They take special care to make people feel welcome, comfortable, and safe. They include their guests in activities, if interested, and are great entertainers. We knew who the best beach vendors were for camarones, fish, and donuts (Mexican hamburgers especially – the cream filled donuts!). Casa Contenta itself is amazing. It is so full of interesting details, colour, textures, and shapes. The grounds are beautiful and lush and the sound of the ocean is so soothing. The property is located right on Los Ayala beach which is an amazing swimming beach. The bay is pretty calm, the water clean, and very safe. There are water noodles and kayaks if people are so inclined. The work they also do assisting dogs and cats down in Jaltemba Bay is a real plus to me, as well. I ended up adopting one of the dogs when I went down in 2013. They spend so much of their own time and money educating people on the proper care and providing assistance for animals in distress. Truly generous and kind people. The little village of Los Ayala is charming, the people are so friendly, and so is everyone I have ever met on the beach. It is so safe there, and easy to get around. The towns of Guayabitos and La Penita are easy to access by inexpensive taxi. Good shopping and the markets are amazing. A wonderful experience. I highly recommend it to anyone who does not want the “touristy” aspect of a big city or an all inclusive. This truly is a great experience.

My wife and I had an incredible week at Casa Contenta as quests of Linda and Jim. The accommodations were beautiful, the hosts were charming, the view was astounding, the beach was perfect and the swimming was unforgettable! Each day started with a walk up the sands to check out the action as the fishermen prepared their catch of the day and treated a flock of pelicans to the scraps. Lunch at one of the lovely beach restaurants was followed by a swim, a walk through the quaint village, or a tour of some of the nearby local attractions, then more swimming, sunning, or just relaxing to the sound of the waves and the wind in the palms and watching frigate birds soaring in the pure blue sky. Dinner always featured excellent fair, whether in a posh restaurant or “on the street” and wherever we went we felt welcome and safe in Los Ayala, thanks in part to the fact that our host are well respected members of the community. All in all, a perfect vacation that we would repeat in a heartbeat and would confidently recommend to friends and family. Thank you Linda and Jim for introducing us to Casa Contenta and Los Ayala!

Another great 2 weeks at Casa Contenta in November.
The property just seems to be more lush than before.
We stayed in the Playa Suite which has been enhanced by a lovely stone patio.
The hospitality that Lin & Jim show their guests is an added bonus , they showed us some great restaurants in the area as well as included us in a dinner party.
W always look forward to a stay in the Los Ayala / Jaltemba bay area and the time spent at Casa Contenta.

For our first Mexico vacation as a couple, I spent a lot of time researching possible accommodations. My dream lodging would offer:

      1. A good home base for exploring the Nayarit coast.
      2. A quiet and relaxing place to rest.
      3. Access to a safe and clean swimming beach.
      4. The safety, comfort, and cleanliness of a resort without the sterility/sameness/ crowds/isolation from the local community.
      5. Interaction with the local community and an opportunity to practice Spanish.
      6. All for a great value.

I chose Casa Contenta based on the Casa Contenta website and online reviews, and it exceeded our expectations on all levels.

When we first entered the courtyard at Casa Contenta, we exhaled deeply, and all accumulated stress from work and other obligations melted away. Lin and Jim welcomed us by name. They gave us a tour of the beautiful grounds and our suite overlooking the beach, and invited us to join them and other Casa Content guests for dinner at a nearby restaurant. We spent the evening eating and socializing and listening to live music at an outdoor table, enjoying the tropical evening breezes.

We soon decided that Casa Contenta was such an ideal location that we would postpone our planned tours of the coast until a future longer visit.

We spent our days taking walks on the beach and nearby trails; swimming in the warm ocean water right in front of the courtyard gate; reading books from the excellent Casa Contenta library on the chaise lounges on our terrace; socializing with other travelers we met in Los Ayala; sipping blended cocktails; and eating fresh seafood at nearby restaurants. We also took the Casa Contenta kayaks out for a paddle in the bay, joined a morning yoga class in the Courtyard, and visited the local crafts market.

The Suites and grounds of Casa Contenta are beautifully designed and landscaped. The result is a serene, zen space. There are delightful details everywhere you look, such as lush vegetation outside the windows, talaveras-tiled stairways, gecko-shaped door handles, and painted frog planters bursting with flowers. The sound of the ocean lulled us to sleep at night. The location is perfect—on the quietest end of the beach with a perfect swimming beach right outside the courtyard gate. We stayed in the Terraza Suite. We highly recommend this suite for the ocean views, spaciousness, and the beautiful terrace. We also toured the other suites and would gladly stay in any of them.

Lin and Jim are incredibly welcoming and gracious. They spend time with each guest upon arrival to share knowledge of local markets, transportation, banking, and restaurants. They are known and respected in the community for their work in animal rescue and other community groups. During our visit, they organized several tours of local towns for Casa Contenta guests. We joined the trip to the local crafts market, but declined several other offers because we were so content to spend our days swimming, walking, and relaxing.

Our week at Casa Contenta was relaxing and magical. Travel from our northern California home was easy, affordable, and stress-free. We traveled light, and spent most of the week in our swim suits. Since we returned home three days ago, we have been talking about our amazing week and how refreshed we feel. We plan to return soon.

Casa Contenta, located in the small community of Los Ayala, is a perfect getaway to enjoy the Mexican sun, sand, surf, and sky. Suites are beautifully appointed, and are stocked with kitchen supplies, including dishes, cutlery, and a fridge and stove. Casa Contenta is extremely well maintained, with wonderful vibrant colours, and many pieces of Mexican art a feast for the eyes. The Casa is located right on the beach, and the warm ocean waters are perfect for swimming and other water sports, including kayaking and boogie boarding. The beach is also wonderful for walking. Los Ayala also has many small stores to purchase needed items, and many places to eat. Lin and Jim, the owners of Casa Contenta, are very knowledgeable about the Riviera Nayarit, and offer their guests many tips regarding what to do while visiting, including possible tours, day trips, fishing charters, a massage, hikes, and eating out at restaurants. The nearby communities of Guayabitos and La Penita are easily accessible by taxi and walking. You will be delighted with a very relaxing Mexican holiday stay at Casa Contenta.
