Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead)

November 1, 2018 - November 2, 2018

During this 2-day holiday, relatives celebrate the lives of those who have passed on. November 1st is All Saints’ Day, when Mexicans pay homage to the souls of the children who have passed. November 2nd is All Souls’ Day, when the souls of those who died in adulthood are honored.

Relatives of those who died, gather at cemeteries throughout Mexico, bringing bread, fruit and decorated sugar skulls, along with candles and the favorite food of the people they are remembering, to celebrate the lives of those passed on. The mood is far from morbid: it is lively, upbeat, and is a celebration of life!

Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is considered a religious holiday/festivity day, not a state holiday.
