Every year on June 1st, an impressive military display takes place to celebrate the nationalization of the Mexican Navy in 1917. Locally, Día de la Marina reaches its peak at the Port of San Blas with parades on sea and land; and at the morning parade in Puerto Vallarta with navy ships followed by tour and fishing boats flying their nautical flags.
Every year, there is also a celebration at the marina in Chacala and a boat parade in Jaltemba Bay. Watch for information a few days prior to the date.
Día de la Marina (Navy Day) is a civil holiday and is observed nationally.
