ABC’s “Bachelor in Paradise” was filmed in Sayulita

US TV network ABC announced the launch of the second season of the top reality show in the nation, Bachelor in Paradise, which will kick off in a two-night event the nights of August 2nd and 3rd.

The new location, Playa Escondida (Hidden Beach), is described as “one of the secret gems of the Riviera Nayarit coast and home to the exquisite, nature-inspired organic wonderland that is the Playa Escondida resort. It is a hotel without signage, without a map, one that has grown intuitively on its lush, beachfront site.” This is barefoot luxury at its finest, steeped in the warmth and color of Mexico.

The show was taped in the Riviera Nayarit and Puerto Vallarta as a result of the efforts of the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau, and will be hosted at the aforementioned Hotel Playa Escondida in Sayulita.

The cast for this season of love in Mexico’s Pacific Treasure is made up of the audience’s favorite participants from previous seasons.

“They all left The Bachelor or The Bachelorette with broken hearts, but now they know what it really takes to find love, and in Bachelor in Paradise they will have a second chance to find their soul mates,” according to the release.

ABC is one of the top four largest networks in the United States. has over 77 million unique monthly visits with 2.4 billion page views per month.

I don't watch "reality" shows because they are very far removed from reality. However it does not surprise me that a "reality" show would choose Sayulita as a locale. In spite of it being an over priced and very Americanized, it is a beautiful little pueblo. We have visited many times but prefer to stay in the other lovely pueblos that stretch up the Nayarit coast and also down the Costa Alegre.

Sayulita is a wonderful place to visit. We have been going to Guayabitos and surrounding area for over 20 years and it's nice to see TV show being filmed in this wonderful place.

I realize you are just relaying ABC's reportage factually, but the fact that you include this kind of thing would seem to indicate that, like the massive herd of media junkies, you approve of a cynical, manipulative and phony reality TV show visiting the area. To the perceptive, I suppose this does expose Sayulita as a gringo party town rather than a real Mexican place, but to the herd that illusion is fostered and encouraged. Even though such "news" is considered normal, I believe it's time to look at it as the distorted crap it is, ignore it and if possible, counter it with the real story.

Thanks for your comments Steve. I do not watch the show. We opted to share the article (originally written by the Riviera Nayarit CVB) simply to inform our readers of the fact that it was filmed in our area.
