  • For those who really like to shop – and even for those who don’t – the Tianguis is a must. People come from miles around to attend this open-air market held every Thursday in La Peñita.

From local artists displaying silver and handmade jewelry, glassware, Talavera pottery, beautiful Oaxacan wool rugs and the famous Huichol Indian beaded artwork – to vendors with carts of ceviche and jumbo shrimp, homemakers selling fresh pastries and linens, and pickup trucks overflowing with poblano peppers and watermelons – you name it, they’ve got it here. This is one of the largest and most well-known markets in the area.

Other items that can be found at the market:

    • Large selection of one-of-a-kind jewelry made with silver, turquoise, pearls, precious stones, feathers, leather and macramé
    • Wide assortment of silver jewelry from Taxco
    • The famous Oaxacan wool rugs which are woven using natural dyes from flowers, herbs and insects
    • Huichol Indian yarn paintings, beaded artwork and jewelry
    • Talavera pottery, dishware, serving pieces and sinks
    • Variety of table linens in cotton and lace
    • Handwoven baskets, placemats and bags
    • Masks, bowls and other handicrafts
    • Locally-grown coffee beans and honey
    • Gourmet nuts, both raw and roasted
    • Homemade bread and pastries
    • Flowers, plants, trees and herbs

While the Tianguis continues year-round, many of the artists, artisans and vendors do not participate during the summer months.

    1. :

You can get anything you want... No matter what you need; food, housewares, clothes, motor parts, cd's, you can get it here. Prices are often cheaper than the stores and produce is field ripe and awesome! When you are done, walk straight down the street and go to La Avenida for cold beer and seafood. Thursdays are market day!
