Vancouverites to KinderAide’s Rescue

My daughter is a high school art teacher in BC, Canada and found herself in the fortunate position of having to donate some old supplies. To her dismay she found 100s of brand new toys, with tags, in plastic sleeves. There were giraffes, raccoons, bees, hedge hogs… you name it! She quickly sent me photos on her iPhone and texted “Do you want these?” I responded with an excited “YES!” She asked, “How are you going to get them to Mexico?” I didn’t know how but where there’s a will, there’s a way.

I posted requests for transporting the toys on Facebook and local forums. I have a friend that works for WestJet who was able to tag these pieces of luggage as “humanitarian” so there would be no additional costs to ship. To my delight, I received a response from a total stranger by the name of Michelle Maglio. She and her girl friend agreed to take one bag each. However, they live in Vancouver and my daughter lives in Victoria. To cut a long story short, Michelle’s niece is in Victoria and was able to connect with my daughter Annilee, and the hand-off of the huge box of toys was successful. The next time Michelle’s niece visited her aunt in Vancouver, the toys were delivered. Michelle was amazed at the quantity of toys that arrived on her doorstep; however she packed them up in old school leather suitcases, that literally exploded when opened. When her friends caught wind of her plight and learned more about KinderAide, the shopping began for school supplies. So, on November 28th, as I sat quietly reading at the pool, a white van pulled into the driveway and eight people started exiting the van with bags and bags and suitcases and suitcases for KinderAide. What a pleasure to finally meet my new friend and her troupe!

Thank you all so very, very much!
