Semana Santa 2013 in La Peñita (Day 5)

Today is Good Friday and Day 5 of the Semana Santa holiday. It was a beautiful day and as expected, Jaltemba Bay was bustling with people. Families flocked to the beach in La Peñita with their coolers, umbrellas, floaty toys and other beach gear. It was wonderful to see people taking advantage of this normally-quiet and underutilized beach.

Middle of the beach near Las Brisas Restaurant.

The ramps and stairs being constructed as part of the new malecon make it very easy to come and go from the beach.

The crowds spilled over onto Circuito Libertad. What better place to play futbol than in the middle of the street?

Both sides of Circuito Libertad were completely packed with parked cars.

Meanwhile this afternoon, the north end of Rincón de Guayabitos beach (looking south from the jetty) was dotted with hundreds of people…

and many more in the ocean.
