* * *

Peter Martin, born May 21, 1943, passed away on Saturday, May 11 at his Guayabitos home from the effects of lung cancer. At the end, Peter was surrounded and supported by his dear friends and longtime partner, Bob Tripp.

Peter was a popular figure in Jaltemba Bay and you could find him every Thursday morning at the Los Amigos de Jaltemba Tianguis kiosk promoting the sale of T-shirts and other merchandise featuring the unique designs of the Guayabitos Women’s Artists Collective. Peter was a reliable and consistent volunteer for Los Amigos for more than 3 years. The proceeds from his Tianguis sales greatly benefited and supported a variety of Los Amigos activities. Peter served on the Los Amigos Management Council where he actively participated and his counsel was well received. We will surely miss his help.

Peter had been a full-time resident of Jaltemba Bay where he had many friends. His home was always open to visitors for late afternoon cocktails and many dinner parties.

Before coming to our area, he had been a longtime resident and businessman in London, Ontario, where he had been a publisher, printer and office manager.

A special memorial will be held in the Fall 2013 in a style commensurate with his British heritage.

I will miss my friend, Peter Martin. And I know he will be missed by many others.

Adios Amigo,

Ken Snyder
Board Member, Los Amigos de Jaltemba

    Peter was a walker and I would run into him in all parts of the community. Everyday he would appear at noon at the house I am rebuilding to teach my wonderful young worker Hugo english. He was a giving individual and I will really miss talking to him on my walks and on his walks. Bob, I wish I could be there for you. But I am on my way back to Alaska to go fishing. I am so sorry for your loss.

    Marilyn and I will miss Peter and his friendly, supportive kindness. He was a tireless worker for Los Amigos, and always had a smile and a wave as we drove by his and Bob's home. Peter, rest in peace.

    Over the last several years Peter also left an indelible mark on many residents in Penetanguishene, Midland area while working on his boat. As each of his northern Ontario friends learn of his passing they are saddened by the news. Condolences to his partner Bob.

    George and I are so sorry to hear about Peter. He was always such a fixture at the Thursday tianguis.. There will be a void in the community that we will all feel when many of us return in the fall.. I am so glad there will be a memorial in the fall to celebrate his life. Our prayers and sympathy to Bob and Peter's family...
