My KinderAide Experience: Part 2

I live in Grande Prairie, Alberta and have been visiting La Peñita for a few years. My husband and I fell in love with the people and area so much so that we bought a home there last season. I work at a dental clinic and I knew about KinderAide from my friend Jane. Last year I arrived in Mexico with my arms loaded up with toothbrushes and paste to go to the Luis Pasteur kinder school to hand them out to the 30 students there. My heart was in my throat by the time I left. I got the full tour of the school, with no running water, broken swings, gravel playground, etc. Through KinderAide, this school has benefited tremendously but still has a long way to go, as do a lot of other schools in the Jaltemba Bay area.

My husband and I took a suitcase full of school supplies on our return trip and it brought tears to my eyes the way the students cared so much for such a little gift. It is my hope that if anyone has room in their suitcase this year to please bring down badly needed supplies.

Here is a list of supplies to consider:

  • pencils
  • white erasers
  • crayons
  • pencil cases
  • blunt nosed scissors
  • glue sticks
  • pencil sharpeners
  • any paper – construction, photocopy, plain, lined
  • pocket folders
  • scribblers for learning letter formation
  • white board cleaner and markers for the teachers
  • Dollar Store toys for Christmas gifts

I can’t wait to get back to La Peñita and volunteer my time to KinderAide. Thank you Jane for everything you have done to bring KinderAide into my life.
