Twelve guests of Thomas Bartlett spent a pleasant afternoon on Wednesday, March 13 at his Hacienda in La Peñita. The group was honoured to meet Mrs. Margrit Mondavi, the matriarch of the Robert Mondavi Winery in the Napa Valley and a very talented artist and chef. The very best of Mondavi wines were paired with each course of the luncheon.
But this wasn’t just a social gathering. This was a very low key fundraiser organized by Las Tres Amigas to support the Scholarship Program of Las Amigos de Jaltemba. The guests had bid on the opportunity to attend either at a silent auction held at the Wine Tasting and Christmas Stocking event held in December at Xaltemba or had responded to emails sent to our mailing list and former scholarship sponsors.
And what great results the day produced. Enough money was raised to provide at least ten scholarships to CONALEP students next year. These students will become future community leaders so these scholarships are perfect examples of ‘gifts that go on giving.’
Our heartfelt thanks go out to those who attended; to Thomas Bartlett for offering this opportunity; to his staff for making it such a memorable occasion; to Mrs. Margrit Mondavi for providing the fine wines, a copy of her very beautiful autobiography for each attendee, and two large personally illustrated menus – mementos of the day – that were later auctioned; to Arnie’s Silver Shop in Rincón de Guayabitos for his donation of a lovely bracelet that was also auctioned; and to Juan and Ramon, two of this year’s scholarship students, who were excellent ambassadors for the program.
This once in a lifetime event will reap benefits for many years to come.
