Well, thus far in the 2014-2015 season we have taken you to Hawaii for a sunset luau, Italy for Christmas Dinner, Merry Olde England for a Mediaeval Feast, and modern day British Isles for afternoon tea. We thought we would end the season with a grand finale… an elegant Evening in Paris.
Sue and Del Moss of Hacienda del Mar have graciously donated their home in Rincón de Guayabitos (Avenida del Sol Nuevo #39, at the end near the Bridge of Life) for the venue on Saturday, March 7 starting at 5:30pm. We’ll do everything we can to make you feel like you are dining on the banks of the Seine. Chef John Spry (or should we say ‘Jean’ with a sexy French accent?) is serving only the freshest of ingredients in his four-course French meal designed with your taste buds in mind. A bar service of wine or beer will also be available.
You can enjoy all of this (including a complimentary starter beverage) for a minimum donation of $400 pesos. Tickets are available starting Monday, February 23, from Rick Helberg at Re/Max Jaltemba Bay Realty at Tianguis, Jeanie Mintzmyer at Hidden Paradise Real Estate at Tianguis, Hala at Hamaca Maya, Sofia and Daniel at Chasite Coffee Shop, or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you are interested, we suggest you act quickly as seats along the Seine are limited.
Proceeds will support the Books on Wheels Program, initiated by Los Amigos de Jaltemba and the Jaltemba Bay Rotary Club a year ago. It has been a huge success, largely due to the efforts of Gema Marquez. She loads the trunk of her little red Volkswagen every week, and visits more than 10 local schools in the area where she presents highly motivating literacy classes with Kindergarten and Grade 1 students. Everyone knows how important it is to get kids ‘hooked on books’ early in life, and Gema has a magical way of doing this.

Unfortunately start-up funding has run out, and the program is in jeopardy.
Developing an early love of reading is one good idea, and according to Audrey Hepburn “An Evening in Paris is always a good idea.” Seems like a natural pairing, doesn’t it?
