What a view, what a group, and what a night! It was a great opportunity to get together with our winter friends, and get to meet some new ones.
The newly renovated Vista Guayabitos Restaurant provided the perfect setting and the food was superb. Congratulations to Nadia Cuevas and her staff for a job well done.
And of course we need to extend a big thank you to Scott Webb and his saxophone for setting the perfect tone for the evening.
The raffle table was well appointed with bottles of wine and Scotch whiskey, gift certificates for dinners at various dining establishments, poinsettias and an original painting. We couldn’t have done it without help from the following local businesses:
- Mini Super Varillas
- Super Korita (offering 15% off on wine and liquors, and they want you to know they will special order items you can’t already buy there)
- Super Alvarado
- Rancho “Las Palmas”
- Miguel Luna Gonzales, Pintura
- BONSAI Restaurant (in the former Toñita III location)
- El Brujo (newest fine dining restaurant in Bucerias)
- Vista Guayabitos Restaurant
- and several other donors who wish to remain anonymous
Thanks to Jeanie Mintzmyer for her help with ticket sales, and to Lisa Meewes of Sweet Bliss Desserts in Los Ayala for her surprise donation of really (and we mean really) delicious desserts. It’s community participation like this that we appreciate so much.
Our fundraising efforts were helped by generous donations from individual members of the Edmunds, Washington Rotary Club, who were in the area last week, meeting the scholarship students and helping with rejuvenating the Community Cultural Centre.
All in all we raised over $10,400 pesos for the Community Cultural Centre which is really starting to take shape. It’s going to be the “happening place” in the area, with the current focus on youth programs and teacher resource centre soon to broaden to include programming for other age and interest groups.
OUR NEXT EVENT: A Christmas Stocking Campaign for school supplies with wine tasting and appetizers at Xaltemba Galeria on Wednesday, December 5 starting at 5:30pm. Our little elf, Sydney Richmond, designed and donated giant Christmas stockings which we plan to fill to overflowing with school supplies (or dinero – we’ll do the shopping for you). The stockings are such incredible works of art that they’ll be up for bid, along with other highly desirable items in our Silent Auction. There will be other opportunities to donate supplies to the Christmas stocking campaign in the days following. Stay tuned for more details. This is one event you really don’t want to miss.
Las Tres Amigas (Helma, Maxine & Nora)
About Las Tres Amigas: We are three women, who one day sat discussing fundraising and how the community needed an afternoon event when Fiesta 2012 at the Bartlett residence was no longer being offered. Two of us had already thought of an afternoon tea and we were off to the races as they say. We have all been involved in our respective communities and have the philosophy of giving back to where you live.
The Tea was a rewarding event with wonderful music, laughter, food, views and pesos for three scholarships being raised. We were dubbed “Las Tres Amigas” by a friend and now we have added the lady bug to further identify us. The Surf and Turf dinner raised enough pesos for five scholarships. People never cease to amaze us with their generosity and their giving back to our communities.
This year we are organizing five events that we hope provide something for everyone. We would be delighted to have offers of volunteers for any of the events you find particularly enticing. Our contact e-mail is firstname.lastname@example.org
