Guayabitos Double Header

My wife Sherry and I were staying at the Decameron Los Cocos in Rincón de Guayabitos for 2 weeks in December. One evening at dinner, we met Rick and Allie, who coincidentally live only a few miles from our home in Canada. Rick talked about being an avid fisherman and his plans of chartering a boat while in Mexico. The next morning while walking the beach I was approached by a local fisherman offering his services. I booked an outing for 7 am the following day. We told our new friends everything was set up and ready to go.

We were out on the water bright and early. Our captain and his son quickly got the lines in the water and started looking for some fish. About 45 minutes into our voyage we got a good hit. The captain grabbed the rod, set the hook and handed the rod over to Allie, to bring it in. As we were cheering Allie on, a second rod started screeching as the line peeled off. We had a rare “Double Header.” We spent the next 15-20 minutes fighting and eventually landing 2 beautiful swordfish.

Once back on land we took 4 nice filets for the chef at our resort to cook up. We shared the rest with our captain and a few dozen locals to enjoy for dinner.
