Fellowship Abounded at International Women’s Day Luncheon at Latitude 21

On Friday, March 8, 2013 close to 80 women ranging in age from less than a year to 92 gathered together to celebrate International Women’s Day at Latitude 21 Restaurant in Rincón de Guayabitos.

Good food and fellowship abounded. To start the afternoon, Las Tres Amigas invited everyone to toast each other! Why not? It was OUR DAY!

Then we got down to the whole point of the day: Maruca Dinsmore and Carole Thacker, representing the Cancer de Mama group, showed a sample of the alternative prosthesis that they hope to have manufactured locally, as it is becoming difficult to obtain synthetic prostheses in sufficient number for the Cancer de Mama clinic. The money raised at this function, more than $18,000 pesos, will be used for that purpose.

Latitude 21 outdid themselves! The decor and food were great and the service excellent. Thanks to Delma, Jeff and all their staff, and Lisa of Sweet Bliss Desserts. Sue Moss provided us with some lively cello music, and then donated her tips back to the program. She even added ‘I am Woman’ to her repertoire, just for this day!

Through the generosity of businesses and individuals:

  • Arena Mar Salon-Spa
  • Del Dilkie
  • Eileen Nicholls
  • Gallery 64, Bucerias
  • Latitude 21
  • Sweet Things, Bucerias
  • Unica
  • Unique
  • and several anonymous donors

The items on the Chinese and silent auction tables represented a wide spectrum of functionality (just like women!) – everything from pamper kits to practical items to pickles. Those who took home the items were very, very pleased. Those who missed out, not so… but we wish them better luck next time.

We especially want to thank three local businesses who helped us greatly with ticket sales: Hala Hazzi at Hamaca Maya, Jeanie Mintzmyer (Hidden Paradise Real Estate) and Rick Helberg (Jaltemba Bay Realty).

All in all, it was a highly successful afternoon from many perspectives:

  • We took some steps to improve the quality of life for breast cancer survivors in Mexico;
  • New acquaintances were made, including some friendly rivalries over certain auction items, and;
  • Most important: A GOOD TIME WAS HAD BY ALL!

Thanks to all who attended. These are for you!
