2012 Was a Busy Year for Our Readers & Advertisers

The past year was a busy one, not only for us, but for our readers as well. We published 40 email newsletters during 2012 in which we shared a whopping 227 articles and photos via our new blog, and our newsletter subscribers grew from 1,015 to 1,500 during the year.

The most popular articles were our two pet travel related stories, New “No Pets In Cabin” Policy Could Change the Way We Travel to Mexico and New Requirements for Bringing Pets to Mexico, which garnered over 14,000 views combined. Other stories our readers found interesting were about the proposed Malecon in La Peñita (New Malecon in La Peñita is Coming to Fruition, Timeline Released for New Malecon in La Peñita, “Before” Photos of the New Malecon in La Peñita and Preparation Begins for the Malécon in La Peñita), the new hospital (New Hospital Opening in La Peñita) and information about Mexican insurance (IMSS Insurance Application Procedure Cleared-Up). Our 6-part series about the Enchanting Little House in La PeñitaWhat’s NEW & Happening Around Town which we update weekly, and several stories from Rob Erickson’s Rob’s Ramblings, Sarah Walker’s Sarah’s Survivors and Christina Stobb’s Meet Local Folks series also made the top of our reader’s list.

A special thank you to everyone who shared stories and photos throughout the year!

Jaltemba Bay Folk, our community forum, held it’s own this year as well thanks to all those who post, reply and read it on a regular basis. Unique visitors are up 18%, new visitors are up 21% and pageviews reached well above a half a million for the second year in a row. And to top that off, earlier this month we had an incredible 139 users online at one time!

Activity on Jaltemba Bay Life is also up! Visits are up 84% over 2011, unique visitors are up 80%, pageviews are up 72% and our new visitors averaged 43% for the year. For anyone who wants a little more statistical information, you can also read an article we published back in August entitled Jaltemba Bay Life Numbers are UP.

2012 was a busy year for our advertisers as well. Our hotel and vacation rental advertisers received 924 reservation inquiries and restaurant and business owners were contacted 457 times via the Jaltemba Bay Life website, up from 608 and 257 respectively in 2011. Since announcing our new Rental & Business Recommendations function back in October, users have already written 22 recommendations for their favorite restaurants, businesses, hotels and vacation rentals to help others decide where to dine, what to do and where to stay… and most of the recommendations given were “Great,” which is the highest level available. This is mighty impressive if we do say so ourselves!

We want to congratulate the hotels, vacation rentals, restaurants, businesses, real estate listings and community groups who received the most views and recommendations in 2012. Please continue to support these and other local businesses that make our website possible through their advertising dollars:
